Just a 1 minute test of the m4v... this footage shot this past summer at the brooklyn botanic gardens at my favorite summertime spot. music by brian eno/harold budd one of my alltime favorite teary tracks, The Chill Air.

Quicktime's latest update contains a format you can save to: Movie to Ipod which creates an m4v file. I'm testing to see how this works in various aggreagators and browswers. I suspect it will not work at all if you haven't updated to the lastest version of Quicktime.

Ok, so it appears that when you click on this it launches iTunes, which kind of bites. But it will play in the ipod... hmm... Not sure on this...

Argh, sorry, many strange things happening here...

Today we visit the video vault a time travelling capsule taking us back to 1998. An educational video from the days when I taught 5-6th graders geography via live interactive television for the Denver Public Schools in Colorado. Let's all sing together! Yay! I've been going through a lot of old tapes, I have a ton. I'm digitizing them since I now have an easy way. I want to eventually get rid of all the VHS tapes and just have them on DVD where I can easily rip them to MP4 and then take bits and pieces to use for this stuff.

I'm also testing a new format, uploading an MPEG-4 instead of quicktime. I think file size is smaller and hopefully it will play well and work for everyone. Let me know...

Women's Brains Shutdown during orgasm, faking takes no brains.
New research indicates parts of the brain that govern fear and anxiety are switched off when a woman is having an orgasm but remain active if she is faking... Scientists from the Netherlands also found that as a woman climaxes, an area of the brain governing emotional control is largely deactivated. "The fact that there is no deactivation in faked orgasms means a basic part of a real orgasm is letting go. Women can imitate orgasm quite well, as we know, but there is nothing really happening in the brain,"

Doing Time, Doing Vipassana; Changing from Inside (info/order), (video clip).
No hokus pokus, just experiencing the truth of existence at the quantum physics level of mind/body by observing breath and sensations and our reactions of craving and aversion. Hard work, and slightly scary, but so worth the 11 days it takes. You gain much insight about life and what's important in our short time here. If more people did vipassana meditation, there would be less war, less violence, less hatred, more compassion for all, more joy. There are centers all over the world, and in the U.S. in Massachusetts, Illinois, California, Texas, Seattle, and in Quebec, Ontario, Vancouver, etc etc. There is no charge for the courses, food, or accommodations, and all the people serving the food and assistant teaching are volunteers. It's pure dharma, pure dhamma. I should mention by the way that this has nothing to do with religion. People of all religious backgrounds do this. It's only sitting and paying attention to breath and sensations with training, purpose and insight.

Clark leads us in a brief clark-style meditation technique. May all beings be happy, peaceful and liberated.

I think Beth's laughter meditation technique is also interesting because we realize we might have a tendency to look outside ourselves for happiness, joy, laughter, entertainment, but it's all in us already. We don't need to look outside ourselves but rather inside. My prediction is that eventually people need less and less entertainment outside themselves, because they move from working from the head toward the heart, and thereby become happier with less, more creative and spontaneous, and we realize our current model of an economy based on consumption and entertainment consumption is out of date and no longer necessary. Instead we spend more time creating and sharing with each other, helping each other grow, learn, and we feed each other. We no longer need million dollar movies made with green screens and computerized special effects. We no longer need everything to be cosmetic and beautiful and perfect and sublime. We don't need constant stimulation, noise, music something to do. We can sit in silence for an hour a day and turn in. We can dance and laugh and make food for each other and stop collecting and hoarding so much material stuff. We can use our money to travel and meet and greet and less oil and energy and earth deplete.

I was also thinking about jokes and their relation to this laughter stuff.. Sometimes I'll be watching a movie, play or TV show, and I'll start laughing just because of someone's infectious laugh I hear, not necessarily at the ready-to-laugh-at joke. The simple things, just noticing them, getting a little tickle, and observing it and letting it grow and grow into something bigger until there's a giggle, and a laugh and a guffaw and snort and cackle. Oh, the cackle. What elicits my cackle and why? Enough for now then, eh?

Guten Tag!
Last week you may or may not have noticed that Übel Knübel was the Vlogger of the Week at WeAreTheMedia.com, so I thought I'd give you the whole, real Übel Knübel vlogfiles.
This is episode 1 of a series of ghetto improvised videos I made for the high school German 2 Tele Deutsch online class I teach. There has been some interest in them, and I actually wanted to encode them in Quicktime since I only had them in RealPlayer before, so I'm using this as a simultaneous opp. to share them with ZipZapZoppers and to prepare for the upcoming schoolyear.

White Tea rocks, as anti-carcinogen, this dude loves it, as well as this dude, and also Moby, and these people sell it.
Remember to brew it shorter than other teas and water should be a little less hot than boiling, according to republic of tea. Apparently, Silver Needle is like the Purple Haze of teas, like totally dank, and killer white buds. I saw it at my favorite place to buy tea in ChinaTown, "Kam Man" department store on Canal St. somewhere around Catherine or Mott, for about $50 a pound.
I'm going to experiment with making white sun tea, by brewing it in a clear bottle in cold water in the sun for a few hours. I think it will be funk dilly icious. Please leave your tea tips, recipes, and comments in the comment section below.

New research indicates parts of the brain that govern fear and anxiety are switched off when a woman is having an orgasm but remain active if she is faking... Scientists from the Netherlands also found that as a woman climaxes, an area of the brain governing emotional control is largely deactivated. "The fact that there is no deactivation in faked orgasms means a basic part of a real orgasm is letting go. Women can imitate orgasm quite well, as we know, but there is nothing really happening in the brain,"
